Def-Con-One – Blood Soaks the Floor
Def-Con Records, 2008
Every band member at one point or another entertains the
idea of forming a side band that differs from the style of music they are most
known for playing. My point is quickly proven when you compare Venom to
Def-Con-One. They sound nothing alike.
That doesn’t mean that DC1 is inferior in any way
whatsoever. Antony “Antton” Lant, the drummer for Venom and brother to vocalist
and bassist Conrad aka Chronos, steps out of the satanic shadow of Venom to
deliver a real tasty offering of raw, stripped down, no-nonsense, fist-fighting
metal.
The cd opener ‘All in Good Time’ sets the pace for how all
ten songs are going to leave you feeling. Have you ever gotten a papercut on
your finger and then stuck it in hotsauce? Imagine that but with your throat
being cut after getting your balls kicked in by a group of skinhead nazis on a
hot dry day with a rock in your shoe and a bad case of constipation. Yeah, kinda
like that…but with great music. It is not Venom-esque by any means and with
song titles such as ‘Caving In’, ‘Rage War’, ‘Scars’ and ‘10 Bullets’, it is
also obvious that this band is not trying to win any Christian music awards
either.
This release can either be ordered from their MySpace page
or picked up at a show. So, if you are near the United Kingdom, make sure to
grab two disks, one for you and one for someone you want to treat to some
de-tuned heavy friggin’ metal. Def-Con-One is some real good fightin’ music for
all to enjoy.
